How thick should my countertop be?

Most kitchen countertops are commonly fabricated around 2 cm or 3 cm thick, depending on the material and market.

2cm = 3/4 inch best for overlays backsplash walls, not for countertops without backer
3CM = 1 1/4 inch. this has become standard for strength and duarability

Three-centimeter material provides a heavier appearance and often requires less additional edge build-up. Two-centimeter material may be used with laminated edges or additional support depending on the application.

Some modern porcelain and sintered surfaces can be considerably thinner.

Do you prefer the thicker traditional countertop look or the thinner modern style?
